How discover works
discover shows posts that people in the operator's network have been engaging with — mostly from people the operator doesn't follow yet. It's for finding new people, not for ranking what's popular everywhere.
- What it reads: public notes and the reactions, replies, reposts and zaps on them, from a large public relay, over the last 7 days.
- Who counts: engagement from people the operator follows counts fully. Engagement from people they follow counts less — more the more of the operator's follows follow them. Everyone else counts very little. Replies and reposts count 1.5×, zaps 2×. Authors engaging with their own posts and "−" reactions don't count.
- Two sections: New voices are authors outside the operator's network, engaged with by at least 2 people in it. More to explore are authors followed by the operator's follows, with engagement from at least 1 of the operator's follows or 5 people in the wider network. Posts from people the operator already follows are left out.
- Time window: posts from the last 3 days, ranked by total engagement — a post doesn't lose points for being a day or two old. Everything is rescored every 15 minutes.
- Logging in (with a Nostr browser extension, or a client that supports relay login) hides what you've already seen, so each visit shows the best posts that are new to you. A post counts as seen once it's been on your screen for a moment.
- No content filter: whatever the network collectively engages with can show up. Posts with a content warning, media marked sensitive, or #nsfw are blurred until you tap them.
- What's kept: 7 days of posts and engagement. If you log in: your public key, what you've seen here, and your display settings.
